Frida Kahlo was born in Mexico in 1907. As a young adult, she planned to study medicine but got into a serious bus accident on her way home from college. She was hospitalized for a month, and during that time, she began painting. Kahlo was involved in Mexico’s peace movement and, in 1954, against doctor’s advice, helped in a demonstration against North American intervention in Guatemala. She passed away soon after, leaving behind approximately 143 paintings.
