Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York. As a young adult, she graduated top of her class at Cornell University before going to law school and graduating first in her class at Columbia. When Ginsburg joined the workforce, she was subject to rampant gender discrimination by being passed over for jobs and not receiving equal pay. This shaped her career, which she dedicated to gender equality. In 1993, she was nominated to the Supreme Court of the United States, where she continued to fight for women’s rights until her death in 2020.
