Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in 1989 in New York City. As a child, she noticed a lot of income and opportunity inequality. This led her to work as an Educational Director with the National Hispanic Institute, where she assisted in community leadership and college readiness. She was a volunteer organizer for Bernie Sanders, stood at Standing Rock, and was sworn into Congress in 2019. She continues to be committed to serving working-class people and is an advocate for social, racial, economic, and environmental justice.
